This is a complete reference for every element available in the WhatsApp Forms builder, grouped the same way they appear in the Elements panel: Basic Elements, Input Fields, and Form Actions.
Common Settings
Most Input Fields share the same core settings:
Every element also has Duplicate Element and Remove actions at the bottom of its settings panel.
Basic Elements
These add text content to a screen — they don’t collect answers.
- Heading: The primary title for a screen.
- Subheading: A secondary title or section header.
- Body Text: Main content or descriptive text.
- Caption: Small secondary text, used for metadata or fine print.
Input Fields
We’ll walk through how each form element works using the example of a salon appointment booking form
Short Answer: A one-line text input. In addition to the common settings, it includes an Input Format dropdown (for example, General Text) to control the expected input type.
- Long Answer: A multi-line text area for longer responses, like feedback. Uses only the common settings — no additional options.
- Dropdown: a collapsing list from which the customer picks one answer. In addition to the common settings, it includes an Options list where you add each choice with + Add Item and remove one with the trash icon. At least two options are required.
- Multiple Choice lets the customer select more than one option from a list. Uses the same Options setup as Dropdown and Single Choice.
- Single Choice lets the customer pick one option from a visible list, rather than a collapsing dropdown. Uses the same Options setup as Dropdown.
- Date Picker lets the customer select a date from a calendar. In addition to the common settings, it includes optional Min Date and Max Date fields to restrict which dates can be selected.
- Opt-in: A consent checkbox, typically used for marketing permission or terms and conditions.
Form Actions
Action Button: The button a customer taps to move forward. It includes Button Text (the label shown on the button) and a Click Action setting. When set to Go to Screen, a Target Screen dropdown appears, letting you choose which screen the button should navigate to — this is how you connect multiple screens in a Form.
