Every template you create needs a category, and every template has to be approved by Meta before you can send it via Onbbits. Picking the right category matters — it decides what content is allowed, what the template can be used for, and what it costs to send.
When you create a template, you’ll choose one of three categories. Meta reviews your template against that category’s rules before approving it.
| Category | What it’s for | Content rules |
|---|---|---|
| Marketing | Promotional messages — new products, offers, sales, and announcements. | Can include offers, promotions, and calls to action. |
| Utility | Follow-up messages tied to something the customer already did, like an order or booking. | Must stay neutral — no offers, promotions, or upsells. |
| Authentication | One-time passwords (OTPs) and identity verification. | No URLs, media, or emojis; short, fixed message format. |
Whether a template message is billable depends on both its category and when you send it. There are two windows that matter here:
Once you submit a template, it moves through a set of statuses before it’s ready to use:
Onbbits shows you the rejection reason from Meta, so you can see what needs to change. Since a submitted template can’t be edited, you’ll need to create a new template that addresses the issue.
